Massive Town Hall Takeover from the Orange Pip Gang

Food lovers have a mouth-watering treat in store when the hugely popular Orange Pip Market returns in a new guise this weekend.

The launch of sister-project Orange Pip Kitchen at Middlesbrough Town Hall promises to be an experience like no other.

As part of its £7.7 million refurbishment, the historic venue has teamed up with Orange Pip Market to delight and dazzle diners while supporting regional fare, independent chefs, creative cooks and food-pioneers.

Every three months, a new menu with a new team will take over Orange Pip Kitchen, creating an ever-changing experience for food lovers across the region.

Orange Pip Kitchen opens its doors for the very first time at 10am on Saturday, June 30, and everyone is invited to tuck in.

First up is the team of Luke Harding, owner of The Waiting Room in Eaglescliffe, who kicks off his residency with a menu combining the best of vegetarian cooking with culinary flavours from around the world.

Harding revealed his debut Orange Pip Kitchen menu for earlier this month and is looking forward to welcoming those with an adventurous palate.

He said: “This Saturday we throw open the doors of Orange Pip Kitchen for the very first time - we will be serving up some of the favourites from our restaurant in Eaglescliffe, such as the Brazilian black bean chilli burrito alongside some new dishes created especially for OPK at the Town Hall, like the halloumi and aubergine salad-stuffed pitta.

“It will be a celebratory atmosphere and we’ll be serving complementary summer cocktails with every meal from noon to 2pm to toast the OPK!”

Middlesbrough Town Hall Commercial Events Manager Keren Pearson is keen that Boro residents head to the Town Hall this Saturday, June 30 for the Kitchen’s opening service. She said: “This Saturday is all about Orange Pip, with the market returning to the town and the launch of the Orange Pip Kitchen.

“It’s a real celebration of the independent spirit of Middlesbrough and how integral the Orange Pip brand is to that. Everyone is invited on Saturday, for fun, food and a fantastic atmosphere.”

Diners at the Orange Pip Kitchen this Saturday can sip on a bespoke summer cocktail while enjoying entertainment from DJ Bobzilla who will be spinning records all day.

And there’s a further treat for music lovers with the Better Daze Middlesbrough Record Fayre in the Town Hall Crypt throughout the day – with classic albums, vintage records, unique B-sides and some of the most sought-after vinyl from bands of the moment.

Visitors to Orange Pip Kitchen on Saturday, June 30 can expect a contemporary menu of vegetarian street food, ideal for lunches, which includes:

  • Waiting Room spinach, mushroom and feta curry
  • Waiting Room pea burger, with tamarind chutney
  • Brazilian black bean chilli burrito
